Personal Background of Tolulope

First of all, Tolulope Arotile was born on December 13, 1995, to the family of Mr & Mrs Akintunde Arotile. The flying officer was born in Kaduna where she attended Air Force Primary school and Air Force secondary school. Later, she completed her study in the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna.

Additionally, she hails from Kogi state, Ijimu local government in the native area of Iffe.

The dream of Becoming military personnel has been a long time passion for her. In her words, I joined the military simply out of a passion for it. The carriage and what it stands for is simply exceptional.”

As an ambitious lady, she underwent tactical flying training for the Augusta 109 power attack in Italy.

Her Achievements

The Nigerian Air force decorated Tolulope as the first female fighter flying pilot alongside first female helicopter pilot, Kafayat Sanni. This took place on October 19, 2019, by Chief of Air Staff, Saddique Abubakar in Abuja.

This week, her secondary school classmate who visited her, unintentionally killed her. It happened that her friend unknowingly hit her while trying to reverse the car in the NAF base. Then, she fell and hit her head on a pavement where she sustained injuries. Eventually, she died.

Despite her short stay of eight months in service, late Arotile Tolulope contributed to the Nigerian Air Force. Thus, she contributed to combating armed bandits in the north-central state. Also, she fought other criminal elements by flying several combat missions under Operation GAMA AIKI in Minna, Niger State.

Her Death

Moreover, President Muhammadu Buhari condoles with her parent. His special adviser, Femi Adeshina, in a statement, mentions that it was with deep pain he received the news about Tolulope Arotile‘s death. Also, he is condoling with the family on the loss of such a promising officer, whose short stay on earth impacted greatly on the nation, especially in peace and security. The statement said.

Furthermore, Nigerians took to social media to react to the news of her death. An Instagram user, @nana_dlamini1, wrote I have a reason there was foul play on her death. May her soul rest in eternal peace. Another Instagram user wrote: So sadly, they should investigate that accident. Thriving in a male-dominated industry as a female comes with its dose of jealousy. Rest on beautiful.”

Finally, late Tolulope‘s sister has called for a thorough investigation on the cause of her sisters’ death. In an interview with Punch, she said and we quote:

“We in the family are not convinced that Tolu can just die like that in a freak accident. I know that the military is well trained in the art of investigation, we want them to carry out a thorough investigation that can convince us beyond all doubts that the incident that led to her death was real .”
